Q. What hardware and software configuration is required to run the CartCare Client software?

The current hardware and software requirements are:

  • Supported Operating Systems:  Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later, with Microsoft's .NET 3.5 application framework installed.
  • Processor:  400 MHz or equivalent (Minimum); 1 GHz or equivalent (Recommended)
  • RAM:  96 MB (Minimum); 256 MB (Recommended)
  • Hard Disk:  Up to 500 MB of available space may be required
  • Display:  800 x 600, 256 colors (Minimum); 1024 x 768 high color, 32-bit (Recommended)
  • To use the remote (web-based) cart parameter interrogation facility, connection to the organization's intranet is required.

Q. Will the CartCare USB Adapter and Client Software work on "thin client" systems?

The USB Adapter will operate properly (e.g. show proper status on the LED gas gauge and provide battery deep discharge protection) with or without the CartCare Client software as long as the USB cable is disconnected.

Thin clients that run Windows XP (including Embedded XP) will run the CartCare Client software assuming that the memory available in the thin client is sufficient to support Microsoft's .NET 3.5 application framework (please check with your thin client provider).

Q. I don't have a CD drive on my computer. How can I load the CartCare Client software?

The software can be transferred to a USB "memory stick" and loaded by navigating to the memory stick and click on "setup.exe".

The software can also be loaded over the network via a shared drive configuration.

Q. Do I have to load a special USB driver before plugging in the CartCare USB Adapter?

No, the Windows XP operating system will sense when the Adapter is plugged in and will "read" the configuration information directly from the Adapter.  It will then set up a standard "HID" driver to connect the Adapter to the CartCare Client software - no special driver is needed.

Q. Why can't I connect to the web interface to check on a particular cart's status?

There are several reasons why this might occur, please be sure to check the following:

  • Ensure that the CartCare Client program is running on the cart
  • Ensure that the URL contains the cart's computer ID and is directed to port 5322
  • Add the JACOCartCare.exe program to the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall program under the Control Panel
  • Make sure that other, 3rd party firewall programs are not blocking access to the CartCare Client's "mini-webserver"

Q. When the cart's computer system powers down, why does the LED gas gauge does not seem to indicate the status of the power system properly?

This could be caused by the computer system not powering down the USB completely during shutdown.

Ensure that the CartCare USB Adapter USB cable is plugged into a USB port on the cart's computer that powers off when the computer powers down.  Some USB ports remain powered even if the computer is turned off.  In this case, the USB Adapter will not recognize that the computer is powered off and will not take over the task of driving the LEDs on the gas gauge.

Q. Why can't I hear the voice warnings?

There are several things to check in this situation:

  • Ensure that the computer has the proper audio drivers and that the system has speakers connected to the system.
  • Make sure that the audio is enabled, not muted and that the volume is turned up.
  • Make sure that a computer voice is selected in the CartCare Client User Setup dialog box (although Microsoft Mary is automatically set as the default if no voice is selected).
